It’s like the Hunger Games trying to get a vaccine against the corona virus. People are up at all hours of the day and night and logging or calling to try to get secure an appointment for the vaccine. In a word, it’s bananas. It shouldn’t be this hard. But there simply isn’t enough vaccine to go around and there are people who are desperate to get it. So desperate, that they’ve found a way to cut the line and get vaccinated before those who are more eligible.

However, with the distribution of the Johnson and Johnson Vaccine states have been able to vaccinate more people. For example, Maryland jumped in the rankings 12 spots in 5 days and is now in 30th place for vaccination distribution.

While people vie for appointments at local pharmacies and mass vaccination sites, and until recently, there were still moments when vaccines have had to be destroyed because there were leftover doses and all the scheduled appointments were vaccinated. Such a waste! But not anymore!

However, there is hope of getting the vaccine sooner than expected. You can now sign up with Dr. B and get on a standby list for leftover vaccine. The Moderna and Pfizer vaccines must be used within 6 hours of leaving cold storage.

Dr. B is matching local residents with area vaccination sites so that no vaccine goes to waste. The sign up is easy. Click on the site and answer the questions. You will be placed on a list according to priority order.

When a vaccine is available, you will receive a text message and you have 15 minutes to respond. Once you claim the vaccine you they will give you the time and location to arrive.

Bring your ID, paystub or proof of employment, and your insurance card. However, you do not need to have insurance to get the vaccine. The vaccine is FREE!

According to the Dr. B website: “The timing for when you will receive a text will depend on your priority group, the order in which you signed up and when the vaccines are available from the providers in your immediate area. For these reasons, it may take time to receive an alert.”

What happens if you miss the alert or don’t respond? You will be given an option to rejoin the standby list in your original spot. If you don’t respond at all, the site will assume you no longer wish to be on the standby list.

Dr. B.’s site is one of the best ways to get in line for the vaccination. It provides another opportunity to get vaccinated and using up all the doses that are taken out of cold storage. It’s a win-win for everyone.

This is a national sign up and the site will match you with a local vaccination provider.

As states open up and lift restrictions those without vaccinations are still susceptible. Dr. B is doing its best to mitigate vaccine waste by pairing up individuals who are willing to get a vaccine at a moment’s notice. Anyone can join the standby list.

Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favor!
