A hidden gem in Damascus, Maryland
In 2019 a friend and I discovered the Music Cafe in Damascus, Maryland. It has a wonderful back patio for outdoor dining. I’ve been there three times now and have yet to sit in the dining room because I’ve enjoyed eating outside on their back patio. Though (pre-pandemic) I’ve visited the loo while there was live music playing in the dining room.
“To provide first-class, live entertainment by using established musicians and serving delicious food, mouthwatering desserts, gourmet coffee, espresso, beer, and wine.” The Music Cafe Mission Statement
The last time we were there pre-pandemic, we were joined by more friends for her birthday celebration. With hanging outdoor patio lights, good music, and wonderful company, it was the perfect way to celebrate my friend’s birthday. There was enough room for all eight of us.
To celebrate a year of missed birthday celebrations we met up again at our beloved spot in Damascus for some good music, yummy sandwiches, and relaxing outdoor dining. Unfortunately, when it was time to leave, we were missing out on the live entertainment that was just beginning on the patio. The singer was a crowd favorite as tables started to fill up as we were leaving.
The Music Cafe is tucked away next to a vet clinic in Damascus. If you blink, you’ll miss the long driveway up to the restaurant.
Being children of the 80’s my friend and I enjoy the selection of 80’s music that plays as the backdrop to our dining experience. I love the relaxed ambiance at the Music Cafe. We’ve never been rushed or pushed out the door, sometimes deciding to partake in dessert if we decide to stay longer as we continue to chat and catch up. I love that you are not just a number to them. They encourage you to, “Come inside, take a load off, and let the good times roll. Oh yeah, and you’re not just a number to us. We want to remember your name.”
The menu is fun with names from various songs throughout history. My friend is a fan of the “Eye of the Tiger” Sandwich and I like their “Viva Las Vegas” vegetarian wrap filled with yummy veggies, avocado slices, black bean burger, and smeared with hummus. They have something for everyone. I love that they have vegan options. My doctor put me on a super low-fat diet for my cancer diagnosis and I am easily able to find something to fit my new dietary restrictions.
“Vegan, Vegetarian, Carnivore, or Sketchetarian. The Music Cafe has something for you.” — The Music Cafe
When the pandemic hit in Maryland, The Music Cafe pivoted and in May 2020 began providing online ordering and curbside pickup for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. More than 13 months later, they have remained open and continue to offer wonderful entertainment for their outdoor dining. Montgomery County approved beer and wine curbside pickup, so go ahead and order yourself a little something to go with your meal. You must order food to go alongside your adult beverage.
In addition to their musically named gourmet sandwiches, the menu includes a robust breakfast menu, especially popular with their after-church crowd on Sundays. Appetizers, soups and salads, and flatbread pizzas round out their menu.
There’s a wonderful community feel to The Music Cafe and it’s a staple in Damascus. So why don’t you “Walk This Way” enjoy some “Sweet Emotion” at “Our House” “If it makes you happy.”
